We are on our way back from an absolutely fantastic day trip to Annecy, France. Often described as the "Venice of France" and "one of the most underrated places in France", Annecy did not disappoint! A beautiful medieval town set directly on a lake overlooking the alps, the town was relatively small not not overly touristy. There were colorful flowers and gardens everywhere, and the cobblestone streets were lined with lovely pastel buildings and churches. The town was INCREDIBLY romantic with its views, canals, gardens, and great shops. Mackenzie and Aaron were our tour guides. We really enjoyed just wandering along the lake, through the streets, and amongst the many shops. It was great to be back in France. Similar to my previous travel in France, I loved how clean and tidy everything was. We finished our trip off with some scrumptious glacier/gelato-- just sitting o the street enjoying the day. From a language perspective, my brain is thoroughly confused. With passable language skills in French and Italian as well as a significant amount of German, we have been interchangeably using the three languages over the past three days. To top it off, the German used in some parts of Switzerland utilizes an incredibly different dialect. It is quite fun to look at a map or menu and see the mix of languages and influences, along with English aspects mixed in.
We are headed back to Geneva for the night and will spend our day there tomorrow! We are SO SO SO grateful to Aaron, Catherine, Mackenzie, and Zachary-- on very generous hosts!
